For travelers and expats
ENT care for travelers and expats in Lima
If you are visiting Lima or live here and have an ear, nose or throat problem, you can be seen in English in San Isidro, close to Miraflores.
Common reasons travelers see an ENT doctor
- Ear pain or a blocked ear after a flight or a dive (barotrauma).
- Swimmer’s ear (otitis externa) after the beach or the pool.
- Ear wax blockage, which can be removed in the office after examining the ear.
- Sinus infections, nasal congestion or sore throat that do not improve.
- Nosebleeds that keep coming back.
- Sudden hearing loss, which is urgent and should be checked within days.
- Dizziness or vertigo.
Before flying again
If you have ear pain, a blocked ear or a recent ear infection, ask whether it is safe to fly or dive before your next trip. With a blocked ear, the change in pressure during a flight can cause pain and, sometimes, damage to the eardrum.
If you recently had ear or sinus surgery, follow your surgeon’s advice about when you can fly.
Go to the emergency department right away if you have
- Difficulty breathing, noisy breathing or drooling because you cannot swallow.
- A nosebleed that does not stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure.
- Facial weakness with difficulty speaking, arm or leg weakness, or double vision.
- Swelling around the eye during a sinus infection, or a very severe headache with a stiff neck.
- A button battery in the nose or ear, or if a child may have swallowed one.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I be seen the same day?
Write to us on WhatsApp and we will tell you the first available time. For a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency department.
Can you remove ear wax?
Yes. The ear is examined first, and the wax is removed by irrigation or microsuction, depending on your ear.
Is it safe to fly with a blocked ear?
It depends on the cause. Flying with a blocked ear can be painful and can damage the eardrum, so it is a good idea to have it checked before your flight.
